Technical field visit held in Polatlı as part of the Training of Trainers programme

The Training of Trainers on Smart and Precision Farming Practices under Climate Change and Water Scarcity Conditions, organised within the scope of our project, was held in Ankara on 8–12 May 2026. On the fourth day of the programme, a technical visit was organised to Polatlı to enable participants to observe precision farming technologies in the field.

The technical visit took place at Özgüç Türkalp's walnut orchard in Polatlı. During the visit, participants had the opportunity to examine directly on the land the sensor systems, irrigation practices, data collection processes and digital analysis methods used in agricultural production.

The field session was led with presentations by Özgüç Türkalp and Özkan Yurduseven. Participants were given technical information on how irrigation decisions are made based on soil, water and plant data, how data obtained from sensors contribute to production planning, and the areas in which precision farming technologies are used in the field.

During the visit, participants examined different measurement systems on site and gained hands-on knowledge of the use of pH meters. Assessments were also made on the role of soil analysis processes, digital monitoring applications and data-driven decision support mechanisms in agricultural production.

As one of the most practical parts of the Training of Trainers programme, the technical field visit helped participants reinforce the knowledge they had gained in the theoretical sessions with examples from the field. Participants had the opportunity to observe directly the possibilities that precision farming technologies offer in terms of production planning, resource efficiency and sustainable agricultural practices.

The technical visit provided an important learning space for demonstrating on site the use of digital technologies in agriculture within the scope of the project and for increasing participants' knowledge and experience of field practices.
